The Ugly Gourdling Story
In the Beginning
It starts with a seed from the gourd that has gone before...
Seeds sprout into beautiful flowering vines.
Female flowers develop a baby bump that grows, filling up with water and seeds.
Lots of warm temperatures, sunlight and water equals healthy plants.
Mature flowers and vines wither up and die.
What is left is a new crop ready to harvest.
Time for the transformation phase.
Full of water, fiber and seeds it’s time to dry out. Which means lots of Mold, but like cheese it’s what gives them character!
This phase can take up to 18 months.
In the End
Reaching immortality. Nature becomes a 3 Dimensional piece of Functional Art.
Bath time! Scrubbed free of all Debris and Mold.
...put in dry storage away from Rodents desiring tasty seeds to fill their Winter pantry.
Each Gourd is an Individual with free will.
What the Artist does with it is very personal.
Preserved for Eternity
... for all to enjoy!
